The Abu Dhabi Police carried out an extensive training programme in collaboration with the Scottish Police College in the United Kingdom in the areas of child protection from harm and abuse.
The training programme focused on boosting the efficiency of police staff members in dealing with various situations. It was attended by 52 trainees from various police stations, and from the Investigations, Crime Scene, Community Police and Social Support Departments.
Major General Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary-General of the Office of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Higher Committee for Child Protection, stressed the importance of the programme in exchanging expertise and honing skills in a bid to enhance police staff members' role in protecting children against risks.
He noted that the programme was implemented in accordance with the best international practices adopted by police forces in developed countries. "This would promote the continuous development and improvement of police procedures and allow the police institution to keep abreast of any new developments and practices applicable in this area," he explained.
Major General Al Nuaimi added that the programme embodies the Abu Dhabi Police's strategy to make U.A.E. a leading country in the field of child protection; and a regional role model for its efforts to promote protection and security of children.
For his part, Major Dr. Mohammed Khalifa Al Ali, Director of the Child Protection Initiative at Abu Dhabi Police, underlined that the training programme focused on acquainting staff members with the importance of child protection, He said that the participants have been trained on the means to handle all types of reports and notifications involving children and the optimal ways to interview children, taking into account their maturity level and their ability to fully comprehend the situation.
