The Chinese Embassy in Namibia opened its gate for local primary school students here on Saturday, presenting the children with an impressive tour and various interesting activities.
The first-ever Embassy Open Day saw the Chinese side inviting over 40 students and teachers from Eros Primary School in Namibian capital Windhoek.
The guests were given a chance to walk around the compound, the dinning hall, the gym and even the ambassador's residence in the Chinese-style building complex that was newly built several years ago.
Chinese Ambassador to Namibia Xin Shunkang himself worked as a tour guide and later a Chinese language teacher during the activities. He took numerous questions about China and Chinese culture from students who were fascinated by the artworks and paintings displayed in the embassy.
The visitors were also elated by a brief Chinese language class and quizzes that won them prizes. Dancing and singing by the hosts and guests concluded the activities that went for the whole morning.
Seven-grader Jessica was pleased because she had learnt a lot about China besides some simple Chinese expressions like "ni hao" (Hello). The visit gave her the wish that she would go to China for study in future.
According to Gert Petrus Husselmann, Principal of Eros Primary School, the event was a "truly eye-opener" for him and the students. "I just hope that this will grow into a fruitful mutual visit on an annual basis. This is the only way that we will be able to determine whether the seed that we have planted today will grow into a tree and bear fruits," he told Xinhua.
The Chinese Embassy also donated two TV sets and cultural products to the school.
