Four students were awarded a distinction and a further 39 others conferred merit certificates for their standout performances at the Green Olympiad exam at Indian School Salalah.
More than 300 students from grades four to ten appeared for the exam, which saw Nikil Anil emerge as school topper, after he secured 88 per cent, while Abhinav Sunil Prasad and Savio Xavier scored 84 per cent and Absal got an 82 per cent mark.
The GREEN Olympiad exam is conducted by the Energy and Resource Institute (TERI) in New Delhi, and is designed to be an innovative manner to test the knowledge of students in the field of environment and create awareness about issues touching their daily lives.
It has been recognised by UNESCO and the Ministry of Environment in India for their effort in the conservation of the environment.
The objective of this olympiad is to improve environmental education at both national and international levels.
It aspires to develop human resources, institutional infrastructure and a diverse mixture of locale-specific, regional and national action plans to sensitise schools on the need for environmental protection.
