Renowned American Pew Research Institute published a new study which states that the majority of Muslims in the world strongly reject extremism Results of research conducted by the Pew on the topic of extremism in Islam were collected based on interviews with about 9,000 Muslims in 11 countries worldwide. According to the survey, 67 percent of Muslims in 11 countries around the world claim to be concerned about extremism by some Muslims and to reject any form of extremism and violent behavior. This especially refers to Muslims in Pakistan, Jordan, Tunisia, Turkey and Indonesia. The survey found that 57 percent of Muslims in the world believe that Al Qaeda is an extremist organization, whose activities and ideology should openly be criticized and rejected. Also, about three-quarters of Muslims in Pakistan, Indonesia, Nigeria and Tunisia have pointed out that suicide bombings and other forms of violence can not be justified, especially fighting for Islamic values. Research of the Pew Institute which evaluates the openness and tolerance of the Muslim community, found that the Muslims in Bosnia and Herzegovina are among the most tolerant Muslims in the world. For example they believe that they have a very significant level of knowledge of the principles of the Christian faith. A similar attitude is seen among the Muslims in Mozambique, in which the Muslims in these two countries are leading in comparison to other Muslims in the world. Furthermore, 92 percent of Muslims in Bosnia believe that women need to decide whether to put the headscarf or not, which is the highest percentage in the world. The same opinion is shared by 91 percent of Muslims in Kosovo and 90 percent of Muslims in Turkey. The survey also showed that the Muslims in Bosnia do not justify suicide bombings in the name of Islam. Only three percent believe that suicide attacks in the name of Islam are justified.
