Zimbabwe's leading telecom firm Econet Wireless on Wednesday rolled out a digital educational platform that will increase access by university students and lecturers to learning materials, state media reported.
Students who are registered on the EcoSchool platform, which consists of an e-library and a chatroom, can access the learning materials on smartphones, tablets as well as on computers, according to a New Ziana report. Free access is guaranteed for over 60 educational websites.
The report said the platform would enable students to save up to 90 percent on textbooks.
Mobile phones have become a common gadget for ordinary Zimbabweans. Government data showed that Zimbabwe, with 13 million population, has 13.5 million active mobile phone subscribers being registered by the end of 2013. Econet commands over 50 percent of the market shares.
