Kuala Lumpur - Bernama

The licences of seven Higher Learning Institutions have been either revoked or their approval cancelled by the Higher Education Ministry for various offences in the recruitment of foreign students. Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Dr Hou Kok Chung said the seven higher learning institutions had breached the procedures or terms and conditions set by the ministry. "From the 169 higher learning institutions that were allowed to enroll foreign students, the licences of seven have been withdrawn," he told reporters after meeting students from China at the Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) campus in Likas here Monday. Meanwhile, Hou said public and private higher learning institutions are encouraged to enroll more foreign students in line with the government's aspiration to turn Malaysia into an international education hub. About 600 students from Turkey, Tanzania, Myanmar, Japan and Kenya are pursuing their studies in UMS.
