The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) has opened an elementary school in Zaghfa, a district of Ash-Shihr coastal town in Hadhramaut, southern Yemen.
The school was rehabilitated by the agency as part of the UAE’s efforts to enhance education and infrastructure in the governorate, according to UAE News Agency (WAM).
Head of the ERC team in Hadhramaut, Abdullah Al Musaferi, said the UAE supports education in Yemen because it is a key pillar in restoring hope, state-building and development.
The new school will help students who must travel tens of kilometres to receive education in other areas. Many parents, he noted, cannot afford transport costs for their children due to the current political and economic crisis.
