The 82 registration centers set up by the Ministry of Higher Education at universities and higher education institutes began accepting applications for the 2014-2015 academic year.
Inspecting the application process at the Civil Engineering Faculty and at the Central Library of Damascus University, Higher Education Minister Mohammad Amer Mardini said the process is proceeding smoothly without any complications.
Mardini said that around 190,000 students are applying this year, and that the capacity for new students at the various universities and institutes is 150,000.
He noted that the Syrian government is making great efforts and shouldering great financial expenses to accommodate university students who are estimated at over 600,000.
Committees have been tasked with supervising and organizing the application process in each center, with these committees receiving the students, answering their queries, and providing transportation for students from the more crowded centers to less crowded ones.
After presenting the applications, a process that takes no more than minutes, the applicants’ data is processed using computers.
As of Sunday September 14, the registration centers accept applications from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM on each day except Friday and Saturday. The application process will continue until 2:30 PM on Thursday September 25.
