Dr Maitha Al Shamsi, UAE Minister of State and President of Zayed University has appointed Dr. Abdullah Mohammed Al Amiri as Provost of the University as of 1st August 2013. Al Amiri will operate as the chief executive officer of the University and will be responsible for carrying out the university's strategic objectives and operation plans, adhering to the highest possible standards within the instructional and scholarly programs of the university as well as for the effective administration and execution of the academic and administrative programs and units at the university with a team of senior academic and administrative leaders. The provost's role is instrumental in providing leadership and directing all academic and administration affairs of the university. The appointment of Dr Al Amiri in this position is part of the investments in the national human resources and their experience and potentials in the service of the country, according to Dr Al Shamsi. Al Shamsi described Zayed University as an important institution that works on preparing generations, contributes to the building of the UAE and ensures its progress. She said, "Zayed University will continue to pursue and promote excellence and creativity in line with the priorities and policies of the wide leadership of the UAE." The university is enlightened by the vision and guidance of its namesake, the founding father of the UAE, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and receives strong support from the UAE top leadership. For his part, Al Amiri expressed pride in working at Zayed University and said his appointment as Provost means being responsible, making tireless efforts to express gratitude for the university's namesake as well as living up to the mission of giving generations an opportunity to contribute to the building of the nation and its human resources.
