The president of Banha university has slammed sabotage acts that were committed by students supporting ousted President Mohamad Morsi at Al-Azhar University during their protest on Wednesday. In statements on Friday, Dr. Ali Shams described what happened at Al-Azhar university as "a crime against humanity" at one of the oldest universities in the world and a beacon of Islamic world. Universities should not be a place for political or partisan struggle, he added. Egyptian security forces stormed Al-Azhar University campus on Wednesday to quell the students' protest. The Interior Ministry ordered police intervention following a request by the administration of the prestigious university. MB students have been holding regular protests on campus, sometimes prompting the suspension of classes. During Wednesday’s protests students smashed windows, hurled chairs and covered walls of an administrative building with graffiti insulting the interim government.
