The Lebanese American University (LAU) hosted Canadian Ambassador to Lebanon, Michelle Cameron, in a workshop titled "Informative Press and Human Rights".
The Ambassador held a meeting with representatives of LAU's academics and with heads of specialized departments.
Cameron explained to journalism students the role of the press in addressing humanitarian and political crises in the world.
The diplomat noted that journalists have a great influence on people's mentality and their views of human rights, reiterating that many countries suffered from human rights violations on different levels. Such violations targeted refugees, LGBT community, and women. She gave the example of the status of Lebanese women who are deprived of some of their basic rights.
Cameron concluded by quoting the Canadian Prime Minister who said "if every country in the world respects human rights, other matters will be achieved on their own."
