Muscat - Arabstoday

Dr Ali bin Saud al Bimani, Vice-Chancellor of Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), held several meetings with officials at Canada’s University of British Columbia during which an agreement was signed to send doctors from SQU for training in different medical fields and micro specialties as well as exchanging expertise between the two universities. Dr Al Bimani also met with the dean of the College of Engineering and identified with him the fields of research the SQU is planning to do in areas like renewable and clean energy. It has been agreed to link together researchers at both universities to carry out some joint projects in addition to the exchange of students and researchers in this field. The SQU head and his accompanying delegation also visited University of Calgary where they were briefed about some medical facilities including brain and nerve surgery, heart surgery and general surgeries and radiology. It has been agreed to dispatch a number of SQU physicians to conduct medical researches. The SQU maintains good relations with renowned universities in Canada where more than 80 Omani medical consultants have completed their specialisation studies with 30 others still undergoing courses in different Canadian universities and medical intuitions. The visit comes within the framework of SQU’s efforts to enhance co-operation with universities and academic institutions around the world, particularly in the fields of medicine, oil engineering and renewable energy.
