Dozens of Mutah University employees demonstrated on Sunday, calling for better wages. They claimed that a pay raise endorsed recently by the Ministry of Higher Education for teaching staff at universities was eight times higher than the salary increase granted to non-teaching staff. They said their work complements that of the teaching staff, emphasising that their calls for better salaries were legitimate because their wages had not been increased in 12 years. Mutah University President Abdel Rahim Hunaiti, who supported the workers’ demands, said the higher education and finance ministries are the ones with the jurisdiction to decide on the issue.
