Shura Council Assistant Secretary General for Relations, Media and Research Affairs Dr. Fawzia Yousef Al-Jeeb affirmed that the royal reform project has guaranteed political and social rights of Bahraini women.
Addressing "This is Bahrain" conference, she stressed Bahrain's pioneering steps in empowering women, developing their capabilities and boosting their participation in the community. She said "Nowadays, Bahraini women have taken up a more advanced status in the building of the society with a greater capability to take up leading posts."
She highlighted the steps taken to boost women's role in public life, including their participation in the High Committee for the Preparation of the National Action Charter, their participation in the parliamentary and municipal elections which are held every four years and the formation of the Supreme Council for Women under the presidency of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty the King.
Al-Jeeb also pointed out the participation of Bahraini women in the legislative authority which reflects royal keenness to engage them in decision-making. She emphasised the legislative authority's support for women's issues by setting up parliamentary committees in charge of women and child affairs and passing the needed legislations to safeguard their rights. She concluded by underscoring the advanced status of Bahraini women in the community which is guaranteed by the kingdom's constitutional and legal legislations as well as international agreements signed by Bahrain in this respect. She affirmed that promoting the political, social, economic and cultural role of Bahraini women will enable her to take part more actively in the kingdom's comprehensive development march and the international community's efforts at all levels.
