Dammam - Arab Today

The organs of a 20-year-old brain-dead woman have been used to provide transplants for seven patients in Riyadh and Dammam. The Shafah Al-Hasna Committee, linked to the Society for Organ Donation (Ethar), succeeded in obtaining an agreement for the organs of the woman who died in Al-Maneh Hospital in Alkhobar. Her organs were flown on Friday to the seven patients on the request of a specialized medical team at the Saudi Center for Organ Transplantation. Dr. Hassan Al-Khanani, the doctor responsible for organ transplants in the Kingdom, said the agreement was reached after a meeting between the Governor of the Eastern Province Prince Saud bin Naif and the Shafah Al-Hasna Committee. Doctors removed her heart, lungs and other organs for patients in Riyadh. Her kidneys, liver and pancreas were donated to patients in Dammam. Al-Khanani thanked the women’s family for saving the lives of seven patients. Al-Turki said the last organ donation was made smoothly and rapidly because of the cooperation between different parties, in addition to the medical and administrative teams at the Saudi Center for Organ Transplantation. He said the committee wants to change misconceptions held by some people in the Kingdom about organ donation and to get consent rapidly. From : Arab News
