Vancouver - UPI

A Canadian filmmaker is free on bail after being charged with drugging and sexually assaulting four women and videotaping three of them, authorities say. Vancouver, British Columbia, movie producer Raymond Law, 51, posted $20,000 bail and agreed to numerous conditions before being released, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported Wednesday. A co-defendant, Alan Lai, in his mid-30s, faces similar charges involving three of Law's alleged victims and a fifth woman, the CBC said. Law faces 15 counts, including four of administering or attempting to administer a "stupefying or overpowering drug," four counts of sexual assault, six counts of unlawfully observing or recording someone naked or engaged in explicit sexual activity and one count of sexual assault causing bodily harm. Lai faces five counts of administering or attempting to administer a "stupefying or overpowering drug," one count of sexual assault and one count of sexual assault causing bodily harm. The women, whose names were not released, were allegedly assaulted between December 2012 and June 2013. The CBC said the charges call to mind the plot of an independent movie Law produced, "Ectasy," about young women abused after being lured into a life of partying. Law agreed to bail conditions including that he not leave his condominium between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m., that he not be alone with any woman, that he not possess any camera or video recorder and that he not give any beverage to any female who is not a family member, the CBC said. Law and Lai are to be back in court in late January.
