The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has honored Kuwait's Dr. Sarah Al Rakayan for her valuable participation in the Second International Conference on Nutrition (ICN2) and for Kuwait's prominent role in international affairs.
"The FAO's Director-General Jose Graziano da Silva granted Al Rakayan, a researcher at Roma Tre University and wife of Kuwaiti Ambassador to Italy Sheikh Ali Al-Khaled, a certificate of appreciation for her noticeable contribution to the ICN2's discussions held here on November 19-21," the Kuwaiti Embassy to Italy told KUNA in a statement. Da Silva expressed his special appreciation to Kuwait's efforts and its prominent role on the international level, the statement said, noting that he also commended contributions by Al Rakayan, who was the only Arab woman that took part in the conference.
For her part, Al Rakayan extolled the most significant results of the ICN2 concerning Rome's announcement on nutrition and the framework of action which both design a global strategy to combat malnutrition.
She underscored the great significance of such results for Kuwait particularly in the educational, healthy and cultural domains for future generations.
Al Rakayan gave a lecture in the conference on "nutrition in Kuwait's health policies", in which she focused on health problems relating to malnutrition such as obesity in Kuwait, and how the government is taking action and drawing on knowledge from other countries to tackle the problem.
At least 100 ministers, hundreds of officials from the governments of member states and nutrition experts participated in the event.
