A group of Jordanian women representing non-governmental organizations participated in the 58th session of the Commission on the Status of Women currently held in New York . Head of the informal Jordanian delegation Dana Abu Sham from Arab Women’s Association told Petra reporter in New York that the delegation took part at the conference’s discussions where they took a first-hand look at other international societies’ views that have similar programs related to women’s issues. During the conference, the delegation presented a briefing on problems and challenges facing Jordanian women in light of the growing influx of Syrian refugees into the Kingdom, she said. Abu Sham also noted that their participation in this conference came upon an invitation by the( United Nations Women) within the project of Syrian refugees living outside camps in Zarqa province, and is supported by the Global Fund for Women. The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is the principal global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women.
