Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and Minister of State for Development and Planning Affairs Hind Al-Sabeeh on Wednesday underlined the importance of cooperation with Japan in the execution of projects listed on Kuwait's development plan.
"The fruitful cooperation between the two countries materializes a shared desire of businesspeople from both sides, whether public or private, to attain sustainable development," she said.
Minister Al-Sabeeh made the comments during the 19th annual meeting of the Kuwaiti-Japanese business committee held at Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI).
The current meeting of the committee provides a platform for businesspeople from both sides to explore the possible investment opportunities in the framework of Kuwait's new five-year development plan, share experience on ways to domesticate technology, she said.
"The Japanese side showed interest in the transfer of technology to Kuwait particularly in the field of information and communications technology," the minister added.
On his part KCCI Chairman Ali Al-Ghanim lauded the growing cooperation with Japan particularly in the economic, commercial and investment domains.
He affirmed the KCCI keenness on promoting the trade exchanges and joint investment with friendly Japan with a view to creating more job opportunities.
Al-Ghanim noted that the volume of Japanese investments in Kuwait is bigger than the Kuwait investments in Japan, expressing desire to increase joint investments in order to tap into the potentials of economic cooperation.
Meanwhile, head of the Kuwaiti side at committee meeting Khaled Al-Sager said the volume of joint investments, approved by August 31, 2014, topped USD 21 billion for the coming five years.
"These projects range from the energy sector to infrastructure, ports, communications, healthcare, education and environment protection," Al-Sager added.
