Islamabad - WAM

Pakistan's Minister for Interior Rehman Malik today thanked the UAE and its wise leadership for providing help to save the life of Malala Yousafzai who is recovering in the United Kingdom. Minister Malik thanked His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces who then had given instructions to dispatch a medical team of six doctors onboard a private aircraft to Pakistan to asses the injuries sustained by Malala. The team then decided to transfer Malala to the United Kingdom for treatment. The Pakistani minister made his statement as he received Malala's father before flying to the United Kingdom to check on his daughter who is being treated in Birmingham City. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed denounced "the attempt on Malala's life (which) was not only an attack on a defenseless child, it was an attack on her and every girl's right to a future unlimited by prejudice and oppression. Her assailants must be universally denounced and brought to justice. Malala bravely confronted extremists in their attempts to ban girls from attending school. We must all stand with Malala in promoting tolerance and respect." The UAE officials have been working closely with Pakistani authorities as part of full coordination between the governments of the two countries to arrange for providing Malala with specialized medical care. On 9 October, Malala was shot in the head and neck on her way back home from school.
