Her Majesty Queen Rania on Wednesday stressed the need to treat orphans and underprivileged children with the dignity and respect they deserve and provide them with utmost standards of social care possible. The Queen made the remarks during a visit to Al Hussein Social Institution in Amman's Ashrafieh neighbourhood. The visit is part of Her Majesty’s continuous efforts to check up on the status of orphans and underprivileged children in the Kingdom, and the services and facilities provided for them, according to a statement from the Queen's office. This is Her Majesty’s second visit to the institution, following up on an earlier visit in 2008 with His Majesty King Abdullah. Accompanied by Al Hussein Social Institution Director Mira Abu Ghazaleh, Queen Rania toured the facilities, including a section for newborns, two households and the services division, which includes tailoring and laundry rooms, a multipurpose hall, in addition to offices for the psychologist and nutritionist. Her Majesty also joined a group of children participating in a musical activity with volunteers. Established in 1953, the institution provides full boarding for infants and children, with 108 youngsters currently benefiting from its services. A large number of the children at the institution are either orphans, abandoned children, or come from broken homes and impoverished families. The institution’s capacity is 150 and is currently housing 108 children.
