Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah on Tuesday visited the Al Salt Secondary School for Boys and laid the foundation stone of the fourth phase of the development of Jordan's oldest secondary school.
Implemented by the "Royal Commission for Developing Al Salt Secondary School for Boys" and in collaboration with the "Royal Scientific Society", the fourth development phase will include the construction of a four-storey building that includes a new library, a science and a computer lab, administrative rooms for teachers, new restrooms and a new cafeteria.
Along with other dignitaries including HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, Minister of Education Muhammad Thunaibat, members of the Royal Commission as well as public figures from Al Salt city, Queen Rania attended a ceremony held at the school to mark the occasion.
Vice Chairman of the Royal Commission, Marwan Al Hamoud, spoke during the event and stressed the important role the Hashemites play in improving education in Jordan.
Ayman Aarabyat, a member of the Royal Commission, gave a presentation to brief the attendees about the different phases of the project which began following His Late Majesty King Hussein bin Talal’s visit to the school in 1992.
Also during the ceremony, Hamoud presented commemorative shields to Princess Sumaya, Farouq Nuwwar, on behalf of Ahmad Al Lozi, and Ayman Arabyat in recognition of their efforts in developing the school.
Following the ceremony, Queen Rania visited a small exhibition that displays a collection of local and traditional products made by residents of Al Salt.
Al Salt Secondary School for Boys, which was established in 1923, is the first secondary school in Jordan. It went through several development phases based on the directives of King Hussein in 1992.
After Queen Rania’s visit to the school in 2008, the Royal Commission for Developing Al Salt Secondary School for Boys was formed to oversee and complete the development of the school.
