Jeddah - Arabstoday

Dar Al-Hekma College for Girls in Jeddah has trained 67 Saudi students on how to extinguish fires and deal with accidents and disasters. The graduation of the trainees shows to what extent the college is keen to save the lives of students and staff while creating awareness on security and safety measures at educational facilities, Dean of the College Suhair Al-Qurashi told Saudi Press Agency. She said priorities of the College were not limited to achieving educational excellence. They also included the development of security and safety measures through field trainings in evacuation and sheltering plans and updating safety and security systems. Training expert Adnan Al-Hashmi stressed the importance of spreading a culture of safety and security within families, the community and all educational facilities including universities, colleges and schools. He said most accidents that had occurred in recent years in schools or universities were attributed to the absence of safety awareness and a lack of training in how to deal with emergencies at home, in the street, at work or in educational institutions. The trainees at Dar Al-Hekma College underwent intensive training in carrying out technical and engineering inspections for safety and security systems, fire fighting and protection measures, the maintenance and replacement of safety systems, and the set-up of evacuation plans.
