The seventh edition of the annual international forum MEDays kicked off Wednesday night in Tangier, northern Morocco, with the participation of the Head of the Council of Arab Businesswomen, Sheikha Hessa Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah.
An official of the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Mubarka bo Eid, stressed the importance of creating international policies to support development in poor countries, face terrorism and safeguard peace and stability.
The official also called for following the international law, use dialogue as a way to resolve issues, respect the different beliefs of people and develop cooperation between countries.
Chief Palestinian negotiator Dr. Saeb Erekat, on his part, said that the region is facing rising tension that threatens to destroy the peace process, caused mainly by Israel's actions and plans to maintain an independent Jewish state.
Meanwhile, former Libyan Prime Minister Mahmoud Jibril spoke of the aftermath of the recent revolutions in the Arab world, calling on the international community to intervene to bring stability back to Libya.
Jibril called on the GCC countries to take an initiative to end the conflict in Libya, similar to the Saudi accord to end the Lebanese crisis. He also called on Saudi Arabia to hold a meeting for Libyan reconciliation and reconstruction of the country, As for Chairman of Amadeus forum sponsoring the event Ibrahim El-Fassi Fihri, he said that MEDays aims to use dialogue between participants to reach agreement on resolving different economic, political and security issues in the world.
The forum, held for four days under the patronage of the King of Morocco Mohammed VI, will discuss various topics including food security, development, challenges facing energy sources, the relation between the US and the Islamic world, terrorism and Iran's current situation with the international community.
About 680 of Arab and foreign officials are participating in the event, including political and economic decision makers, representatives of regional and international organizations and NGOs of 80 countries.
The forum will present its annual award to Tunisian Prime Minister Mehdi Jomaa for his efforts in keeping democracy in the country, and for Director General of Emirati Masdar Corporate Ahmad Bahlool, for successfully developing energy sources.
