New York - KUNA

The presence of Kuwaiti women on the international scene sheds light on the country's civilized image, Chairperson of Women's Affairs Committee at the Kuwaiti Cabinet Sheikha Latifa Al-Fahad Al-Salem Al-Sabah, has said.

Sheikha Latifa noted that the delegation reviewed during the UN session the gains acquired by Kuwaiti women the past two decades, as well as the government efforts to empower women and engage them in the state development plans.
The delegation stressed the efforts to support Kuwaiti women and qualify them in all fields, scientific, cultural, health and social, encouraging them to participate effectively in the civil society organizations.
In addition, Kuwait has urged the UN to assume its responsibilities and exert utmost efforts to support women in Arab countries suffering political unrest, developing a mechanism to curb violence against them, she said.
Sheikha Latifa underlined coordination with the Arab League delegation during the UN session.
She referred to an initiative by the Women's Affairs Committee to offer Arab women due assistance to alleviate their suffering and find urgent solutions to their problems.
Sheikha Latifa had delivered Kuwait's statement to the UN session that concluded discussions on Saturday.
