Kuwait - KUNA

Chairwoman of Kuwait Government's Women's Affairs Committee, Sheikha Latifa Al-Fahad Al-Salem Al-Sabah congratulated Thursday all Kuwaiti women on the advent of the International Women's Day, March 8. In a press statement, Sheikha Latifa, also chairwoman of Kuwait Federation of Women Associations, thanked Kuwait women for their pioneering and leading role in serving and developing their society. "Kuwaiti women have been an effective partner for male compatriots in Kuwait's development march since early 1960s," Sheikh Latifa said. She added that Kuwaiti women have proved their impressive potential in all places and posts they assumed. Sheikha Latifa also noted that the Kuwaiti women have made great achievements and successes in all domains over the past decades. She expressed gratitude for the Kuwaiti leadership and government for their eagerness to empower women, and called for more legislative reforms to achieve this aspired-after goal. The International Women's Day is marked on March 8 every year. In different regions of the world the focus of the celebrations ranges from general celebration of respect, appreciation and love towards women to a celebration for women's economic, political and social achievements. The UN theme for International Women's Day 2013 is "A promise is a promise: Time for action to end violence against women".
