Shoura Council member and former visiting researcher at Harvard University Hayat Sindi celebrated the ruling of a lawsuit in her favor and says that the woman and her mother involved in the suit were only trying to destroy her reputation and exploit her participation in several international forums.
“Thank God, first and foremost, the ruling is in favor of the truth, and the truth has been revealed after years of arguments and sessions,” she said.
In a statement to a local newspaper, Sindi said that her end goal is not financial gain in this case. “However, I wanted to clarify the situation, and this was the most important thing for me and still is.”
The jury in Boston on Wednesday ruled in favor of Sindi, entitling her compensation of $3.5 million after she filed a suit against a woman and her mother for slander. They had claimed that she falsified her scientific qualifications.
Sindi has an impressive scientific and academic background, as she was previously selected by UNESCO as a goodwill ambassador among 10 experts from different countries to develop the best possible technology means in 2016 in the field of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
She was also selected as the first Saudi and Arab women to join the UNESCO judging committee for the UNESCO award to for girls and women’s education
Sindi was also recently appointed by the head of the Malaysian Council of Ministers as a special member on the Malaysian Advisory Council for Science and Innovation, granting her a major role in promoting the Malaysian transformation plan. The council officially began its work last May.
