Speaker of the Arab Parliament, Ahmed Mohammed Al Jarwan, has congratulated H.H.
Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union (GWU), Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF) and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, on the occasion of the 1st Emirati Women's Day, observed on 28th August.
The date marks the anniversary of the creation of the General Women's Union (GWU) in 1975, and is considered an occasion to celebrate the achievements of Emirati women since the group was founded.
''The day pays homage to the Emirati women working in the armed forces for their precious sacrifices towards their homeland.
It also celebrates the Emirati women's achievements in all walks of life,'' Al Jarwan said, emphasising that the prudent leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the special care given by the Mother of the Nation, (HH Sheikha Fatima) have propelled Emirati women to leading positions and accorded them a prestigious status.
HH's encouragement had enabled women to contribute along with men in various spheres of national work, he added.
''The Emirati woman is today holding senior political, executive and legislative positions,'' he said.
