British Ambassador to Bahrain Simon Martin has opened the "Celebrating Women in Science" event organised by the British Council.
The event, attended by key figures from the education and research fields as well as university students, comes in light of the Kingdom’s Celebration of Bahraini Women’s Day on December 1.
The interactive evening commenced with a panel discussion where prominent Bahraini women shed light on their pioneering work and experience in the fields of science and engineering. The discussion was moderated by Suzanne Jones, Gulf Science Innovation and Knowledge Economy Programme Director at the UK’s Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and involved leading Bahraini women in the field of science and engineering.
Speaking at the event, the UK ambassador said: "I am very pleased to be celebrating pioneering Bahraini women in science today, including alumni of the UK’s Windsor Leadership Programme. Bahrain has long been at the forefront of championing female education, empowerment and equality and it has been wonderful to hear of Bahraini women’s successes in their respective professions as well as their commitment and passion for science. The UK’s Science & Innovation Network (SIN) is actively building partnerships and collaborations in this field with Bahrain and the wider world to support the delivery of the UK’s top international science and innovation priorities. British and Bahraini universities are already collaborating on joint pieces of research, including on renewable energy, and I look forward to continuing to further build on our strong educational and research links."

Richard Rooze, British Council Bahrain Director said: "The British Council believes in creating opportunities and encouraging people to achieve their full potential, and during this year, we have supported four professional women from Bahrain through training at the Windsor Leadership Trust. As we heard their stories and celebrated their successes tonight, I hope they will inspire the next generation of Bahraini women to enter the careers they are passionate about."
