US mom sues after baby's finger cut off

A Florida mother is suing a hospital after her 3-month-old daughter's finger was accidentally amputated, court documents state. A complaint filed in Polk County Circuit Court says Veronica Olguin brought her daughter to Heart of Florida Medical Center in Davenport in October with a suspected fever. After two days she was to be released, but nurse Emily Anna Stutz, attempting to snip off an intravenous feeding tube in the baby's left hand, severed her small finger instead. "Blood squirted everywhere," Olguin said. "On her shirt, on my shirt, on my face." Doctors were unable to reattach the finger, and Lou Pendas, Olguin's lawyer, said the hospital has not responded to requests to settle the matter out of court. Olguin is suing the hospital for negligence. Other than missing a finger, her mother said the now 8-month-old girl is fine, the Tampa Times reported Wednesday.
