The Chinese Embassy in New Zealand confirmed Tuesday that a 37-year-old Chinese woman was killed at her home in Wellington suburb of Mirama and the police have launched a homicide investigation. Youwen Fu, director of the Chinese Embassy's Consular Section, told Xinhua that the deceased was holding a Chinese passport. She moved to New Zealand in 2006 from China's Inner Mongolian region. The Chinese Embaasy and the New Zealand police were trying to contact her family members in China, Fu said. Police said the Chinese woman suffered a violent attack and could have been lying there for days before being discovered. The body of the 37-year-old mother-of-two was found Sunday afternoon by a male friend who went to visit after not hearing from her for several days. The detective leading the investigation, Senior Sergeant John van den Heuvel, said that the woman had not been seen or heard from since Thursday evening. Van den Heuvel said the woman has children aged five and nine. He said they were not at the house in the suburb of Miramar when their mother's body was found He said the children are now safe staying with other family members. The woman's name has not been released as the family in China have yet to be notified. Police said they would like to speak to anyone who may have seen any people or vehicles at the property between Thursday evening and late Sunday afternoon.
