The two-day World Conference on Women and Islamic Awakening opened in Tehran on Tuesday. About 1500 women from 80 countries have participated in the conference. Iran has so far hosted several international conferences on Islamic Awakening which has brought down some Western-backed despotic rulers in the Arab world. Addressing the conference, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that the Islamic Awakening movement in the region should be directed against the global arrogance (forces of imperialism) and the Zionist regime. “We tell Muslim nations to be careful. The hegemonistic powers once deceived nations. In the era of colonialism, when many countries rose up for independence, colonialists retreated, but later created a colonialist system with a new nature that was worse than the old colonialism,” Ahmadinejad told the participants. The president said, “We should be careful, and the sharp point of our movement should target the global arrogance. If we target the global arrogance, the dictators that are dependent on them will collapse. “The sharp point of our movement should be directed against the Zionist regime because this regime is the power base of the (global) arrogance and is behind the hegemony of dictators.” He also stated, “All freedom-seeking and justice-seeking people are standing by each other and are brothers, and you should be aware that the hegemony of the United Stated and the Zionist regime are on the wane and justice will be promoted.” The world is in need of a fundamental change and political and economic systems should be reformed, he said, adding that the Islamic Awakening is the main condition for a great change in the current situation of the world. Elsewhere in his remarks, Ahmadinejad said that the most hideous manifestation of dictatorship and repression is now seen in the United States. “Behind the scenes, a corrupt group of Zionist capitalists are ruling over 300 millions of the people of the United States… the people of the United States have no freedom of choice, and the Zionists, based on their needs, decide who should become the president,” he said.
