The participants in the Arab Conference on the "role of women and mothers in the preservation of family cohesion and social stability" underlined Thursday the importance of "positive" use of the new information and communication technologies (NICTs) in the preservation of family stability.
Arab League's Head of Women, Family and Children Department, Inas Sayed Mekkawy emphasized the need for the mastery and wisely use of ICTs by the members of the family, especially parents in order to preserve family cohesion.
For his part, Ahmed Abdenadher, expert in population and development, explained that the virtual communication creates a gap between the members of the family, who are used to traditional means of communication, namely direct contact and dialogue.
He also called to raise children's awareness of the dangers of these new technologies, and the need to use theme positively.
Thoraya Tidjani, university teacher, said that the family dislocation is mainly due to the misuse of these technologies, especially when parents are illiterate or have no training in ICTs.
She underlined the need to develop policies and programmes to help families in the education of their children.
