A march in support of Egyptian women drew scores of people in Tahrir Square demanding their right to participate in the country’s future. The women also rallied to protest the abuse suffered at the hands of security forces. Reem Abaza spoke Maya Morsy, UN Women coordinator in Egypt about the significance of the march. Women’s Voices in Egypt after the Arab Spring During the revolution, Egyptian women played a vital role in organizing and Arabic woman holds sign reading 'think equal' marching for democracy alongside men. Now, they are demanding equal participation in the new government. Georges Collinet of the World Bank travelled to Cairo where he spoke to women about the liberation movements in the Arab world, otherwise known as the Arab spring, and its impact on their lives. Progress slow in preventing malaria in pregnant women Malaria has been a major hazard for pregnant women exposed to the parasite that causes the disease. The UN estimates, it causes 10,000 maternal deaths a year in Sub-Saharan Africa. Mrs. Johannah-Joy Phumaphi the Executive Secretary of the African Leaders Malaria Alliance (ALMA) spoke to Jocelyne Sambira about the little progress made in preventing malaria in pregnant women.
