Fadwa Barghouti, the wife of imprisoned Fatah leader Marwan Barghouti, called on the “loyal” people of Gaza to remember the sacrifices made by her husband and other Palestinian leaders currently imprisoned by Israel. “Gaza, the West Bank and the Diaspora always prove that they deserve the sacrifices of their leadership in order to continue their fight against Israeli occupation,” Barghouti said in a press statement on Sunday. Mrs Barghouti continued by thanking the people of Gaza for her warm welcome on arrival to Fatah’s 48th anniversary celebrations in Gaza City on Friday, stressing the need for Palestinian factions to unite. Palestinian resistance leader Marwan Barghouti has been imprisoned by Israel for 18 years now, Fadwa said, adding that her husband’s freedom was her only hope. “Solidarity with Palestinian prisoners has not reached the necessary level,” she continued, accusing Palestinian factions of failing to give the vital cause its due attention. Barghouti said in her statement that Fatah celebrations on Friday demonstrated how “our people will not let us down and will not remain silent towards Israeli aggressions against our prisoners and heroes inside their jails.”
