London - Arabstoday

Long-lasting love might be closer than many single workers think, a new study suggests. A survey by Career Builder found that 30 percent of colleagues who dated ended their relationship with a trip down the wedding aisle, the daily mail reported. The top industries for finding workplace romance included hospitality, information technology, financial services and healthcare. Famous couples who met on the job include Barack and Michele Obama, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie and CBS CEO Leslie Moonves and his wife Julie Chen. 39 percent of the 4,216 employees surveyed said that they had dated a co-worker at least once during their working lives. Of that number 29 percent said that they went out with a higher-up while 16 percent admitted that they had carried on with the boss. Women were more likely than men to date someone above them on the career ladder - 38 percent compared to 21 percent. Most said they had been open about these relationships, but 35 percent kept them secret. Clarence Belnavis, a partner in the Portland, Oregon, office of law firm Fisher and Phillips, warns clients on the dangers of office romance. He said that many employers are reluctant about dealing with the legal consequences workplace relationships can raise. The CareerBuilder study found that for most, sparks flew outside of the office. 12 percent said that they started dating after accidentally running into each other in public, while the same percentage said happy hours and late nights at work led to a fling.
