Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF)
Washington - Arab Today

Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) Sixteen young Emirati scientists have been chosen to represent the country through their scientific innovations at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) in Los Angeles, California — the world's largest international pre-college science competition.
The 16 scientists were selected by industry and academia experts during the Emirates Foundation Think Science Competition last month. They were part of the Emirates Foundation's Think Science Ambassadors Project in collaboration with Intel.
The students will showcase their projects at the fair from May 11 to 16 for a chance to win one of the fair's coveted awards.
Maitha Al Habsi, Chief Programmes Officer at Emirates Foundation, said the programme inspires young scientists to pursue a path to a sustainable future for the UAE.
"As role models, they are empowered to encourage further exploration and development of knowledge, analytical thinking and skills in their peers as they cooperate to solve local and global technological issues,” Maitha said.
Intel ISEF offers a yearly forum for more than 1,700 high school students from more than 70 countries and territories to showcase their independent research and compete for more than US$4 million (Dh14.6 million) in awards.
Today, millions of students worldwide compete each year in local and school-sponsored science fairs; the winners of these events go on to participate in regional and state fairs from which the best win the opportunity to attend Intel ISEF.
Criteria for judging includes the students' abilities to handle challenging scientific questions, use authentic research practices, and create solutions for the problems of tomorrow. Doctoral-level scientists will review and judge the students' work.
The Think Science Ambassadors Project is one of three projects under the Emirates Foundation's Think Science Programme, under the Patronage of Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister and Chairman of the Emirates Foundation for Youth Development.
