The Abu Dhabi Police have introduced a smart programme to hasten rescue operations during traffic-related accidents. The device-based CRS programme, which keeps a database of vehicles, will enable the Emergency and Public Safety Department to access information about the important areas - air bags, sensors and cylinders- of the vehicle involved in the accident. The smart programme also specifies rescue tools that are needed for the mission.
A training session has been conducted for the rescuers to familiarise with the CRS programme and the devices with a focus on methods that were to be adopted while rescuing trapped accident victims.
The session also focused on the skills needed to ensure the safety of the accident victim while removing crashed vehicles in the event of a severe accident.
Brigadier Engineer Hussein Ahmed Al Harthi, director-general of Central Operations at Abu Dhabi Police, said: "The Abu Dhabi Police are the first in the region to adopt the use of smart devices like the CRS program in rescue operations," he said.
"The training of our rescue team also covered prevention methods to deter the level of risks involved when dealing with vehicles that run on sources of alternative energy."
Colonel Mohammed Ibrahim Al Ameri, head of the Emergency and Public Safety Department, noted that the system has been installed on iPad devices. Some of these devices have been designated for training, while others have been installed in rescue vehicles. The highest levels of proficiency are needed in dealing with severe accidents. The smart devices will help rescue team ensure their safety as well as the victims'.
Lieutenant Colonel Omar Ahmed Al Dhaheri, head of the training section of the Emergency and Public Safety Department, said that 12 officers and non-commissioned officers of trainers at the Emergency and Public Safety Department had undergone training at Amsterdam in the Netherlands.
He added they received training on the CRS system, which improved their competencies in responding to emergencies related to traffic accidents. The adoption of the programme comes in implementation of the Smart Government initiative, and corresponds to the strategy of the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters, which aims to optimise the use of human resources.
