An academic conference on geodesy and geophysics is scheduled for Oct. 25 and 26 in Beijing's China University of Geosciences to shed light on global sustainable development. With the theme of "From global changes to future Earth," the event will be jointly hosted by the Chinese National Committee for International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG) and the Academic Division of Earth Sciences under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). Organizers said at Friday's press conference that they will invite nearly a thousand domestic and foreign academics and experts to deliver reports concerning eight major fields such as geomagnetism and aeronomy, hydrology, meteorology and atmospheric sciences and seismology. "(The conference) focuses on global sustainable development with multi-disciplinary researches and aims to provide scientific evidence for government decision-making and bring more knowledge to the public," said CAS academic Wu Guoxiong, also president of the academic committee for the conference. According to Wu, the event will also unveil some new technology and products.
