The social networking site Twitter was partially blocked in the UAE by the telecom operator du on Monday.Fans of the website said they were unable to log onto the popular microblogging site, which has more than 200,000 users in the UAE.“I just tried getting onto Twitter today but it’s not working - saying the site has been banned for ‘safety reasons’ by du. Anyone else having the same issue?” LoubyLou posted on Yahoo Answers.Offices in Dubai’s Media City were unable to access to site. Du’s warning message said: “This website is not accessible in the UAE.” “The site you are trying to access contains content that is prohibited under the Internet Access Management Regulatory Policy of the Telecommunications Authority of the United Arab Emirates,” it added.The UAE has the highest number of Twitter users in the GCC, according to a report by the Dubai School of Government.
