DVDs or on-demand movies? Some pundits would have you believe it's one or the other, but you can walk the line and enjoy both. All you need is a Blu-ray player that has apps. Like this one: While supplies last, Quick Ship Electronics has the refurbished Sony BDP-BX58 Blu-ray player for $64.99 shipped. It's without question the most loaded set-top box I've seen at this price. How loaded? Well, it's a Blu-ray player for starters. It supports regular and 3D discs, the latter kind of fun if you know where to score 3D movies to watch at home. Sony also packs the player with apps: Amazon Instant Video, Netflix, Hulu, Pandora, Vudu, and loads more. When it comes to streaming the heavyweight services, it rivals Apple TV and Roku. No Ethernet near your entertainment center? No problem: the BDP-BX58 actually has Wi-Fi built in. And you can control the player via Sony's remote app, which is available for Android and iOS. That's extra awesome, especially when you need to type in, say, your log-in credentials for the aforementioned services. Most amazing of all, the player actually comes with an HDMI cable. I know, I'm still collecting my jaw from the floor. So, what's not to like? Only this: the player is described thusly: "This item was originally purchased from a major retail store and returned. It has been fully tested, cleaned and is in perfect operating condition. This unit shows signs of use including light to moderate scuffs and/or light scratches on the face and case." In other words, it may look used -- unlike some refurbished items, which look good as new. Also, the warranty is just 60 days. I will note that I bought a refurbished Sony Blu-ray player about a year ago, and it's been working just fine. Your mileage may vary. At this price, I think it's worth a roll of the dice. Your thoughts? Bonus deal: Calling all Mac users! EaseUS Software is offering an 11-item Mac OS X Bundle for $49.99. The combined value: $400. The apps include PhotoStudio, Panorama Maker, CleanGenius, and WinX DVD Ripper.
