Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has signed a 150-million-U.S. dollar contract to supply an advanced fire-control radar for fighter aircraft to an Asian country, the company announced Tuesday. The ELM-2032, developed by IAI subsidiary ELTA Systems Ltd., implements technologies that significantly enhance an aircraft's surveillance and fire-control capabilities in air-to-air, air-to- ground and air-to-sea attack missions, enabling the pilot to detect maneuvering targets and achieve a quick lock on, an IAI statement said. The deal comes on the eve of the Singapore Air Show, a six-day event that will open next Tuesday. IAI plans to present what it calls its "Total Connectivity" theme at the show -- an integrated network based on fourth-generation cellular technologies that enables real-time data transfer between control centers, unmanned aerial vehicles and multi-layered defense and precision-strike systems.Asia has become the state-owned IAI's leading market over the past decade, with India, South Korea and Singapore topping the list of trading partners. In early January, IAI inked a deal worth 1.1 billion dollars with an unnamed Asian client, the second-largest contract in its history, for the supply of an assortment of weapons systems over the course of four years. While the customer and the systems that have been ordered were not identified, an Israeli defense official told Xinhua they include intelligence-gathering technologies, drones, anti-missile defense systems and other armaments. The official said the deal would boost IAI's orders backlog to an all-time record of some 10 billion dollars and help the company weather the current crisis in the global arms market.
