Global Women’s Forum Dubai
Dubai - WAM

In an interactive session at Global Women’s Forum Dubai, Sarah Amiri, Mars Mission Deputy Project Manager and Science Lead, has discussed her work in the aerospace sector as well as the importance of the Hope Mars Mission project at the Mohamed bin Rashid Space Centre, MBRSC, in developing and sustaining the UAE’s future.

Ibrahim Hamza Al-Qasim, the mission's Deputy Project Manager for Strategic Planning, opened the discussion by introducing Sarah Amiri and exploring her various accomplishments as a leading Emirati engineer and an inspirational woman. Ibrahim asked Sarah to explain the importance of the Hope Mars Mission project, as well as the role of the newly-formed Council of UAE Scientists.

Sarah Amiri, who is currently Emirates Mars Mission Science Team Lead, said, "Space programmes are unique because developing them requires utilising all types of engineers and knowledge in various sectors. In order to develop successful space programmes, we will need to train and develop scientists from various fields which will enrich our knowledge economy. By working on enhancing our science sector, we are working to develop an economy that is less dependent on oil and more sustainable."

Recently appointed as the Head of the Council of UAE Scientists, Sarah discussed the role of the new Council. She said, "Our government has made a remarkable shift recently and the change that made me the happiest was the formation of the Council of UAE Scientists. The role of the Council is to be the link between everyone in the sciences and to provide the necessary tools and the right environment to create the next generation of Emirati scientists with opportunities in every sector."

Global Women’s Forum Dubai took place at the Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai from February 23rd-24th, under the patronage of Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and led by Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the UAE Gender Balance Council, President of Dubai Women Establishment and wife of H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs.
