Days after winning a $1.05 billion jury verdict against Samsung Electronics Co., Apple Inc. says it is seeking a U.S. sales ban on eight Samsung smartphones. After winning a patent trial against the South Korean company, Apple filed Monday in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California for a preliminary injunction against eight Samsung products including versions of its Galaxy and Droid smartphones, The Wall Street Journal reported. Apple said it was asking for an extension of a preliminary ban on a tablet computer involved in the case and reserves the right to pursue permanent injunctions against the sale of all 28 devices the jury Friday said violated Apple patents. In its court filing, the Cupertino, Calif., company said its initial request for the ban of eight smartphones was "to address a portion of the immediate, ongoing irreparable harm that Apple is suffering." Samsung has said it will seek to overturn the jury verdict and would ask an appeals court to stay any preliminary injunction.
