Jerusalem - XINHUA

The sixth Asian Science Camp opened Sunday at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, attracting more than 200 participants from some 20 countries and regions in Asia Pacific. Under the slogan "Young Science for the Future," five Nobel laureates and over 20 leading experts in physics, chemistry, life sciences and mathematics will give lectures during the week-long event and talk with future scientists, according to the organizers, who said they hoped the camp would give the participants a "unique and diverse Israeli experience." Students from countries such as India, Japan, China, Australia, Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates attended the camp. "Science is a universal language. It transcends borders and political issues," said Guy Kivetz, a member of the organizing committee for the camp. "We believe that this platform will give them an opportunity, not only to learn from the best minds in science and technology all over the world, but also to communicate among themselves," he added. The idea for the Asian Science Camp was co-proposed in September 2005 by two Nobel laureates. The event is aimed to enlighten science talented youths through discussions and dialogs with top scholars in the world, and promote international friendship and cooperation among best young students of the next generation in Asia.
