The documentaries "Vent de sable: le Sahara des essais nucléaires" and "L'Algérie De Gaulle et la bombe" on the French nuclear tests in the Algerian Sahara, directed by Algerian journalist Algerian Larbi Benchiha, were selected in Japan to be screened before an audience of experts on 6 and 9 August in Hiroshima Peace Institute, as well as in the eponymous city of Nagasaki, the director told APS on Tuesday.
These projections, which will be attended by the director, are programmed for the commemoration of the atomic bombings against these two cities by the United States on those fateful days of 1945.
In addition, Larbi Benchiha will successively visit the two cities at the invitation of Hiroshima University to present this documentary as it will serve as a platform work for many scientists, historians, psychologists from many nationalities.
"I think the opportunity to visit Japan is very important in order to explain to the experts attending the commemoration, the tragic situation of the Algerian Sahara and tell them that the Saharan populations are victims of injustice which lasts more than half a century," said Benchiha who has worked on the issue of nuclear tests in Algeria since 2007, in collaboration with scientists and experts.
"France still refuses to officially acknowledge it has contaminated the Sahara, as places are saturated with toxic products of atomic explosions," he said.
