The new platform, which will feed into Google’s new social network Google+, its search engine and other third party websites, is set to rival Facebook’s widespread commenting system, reports technology news site, The Next Web. The Google comment system “will have deep links to Google’s network of services and websites, indexing comments in Google search and most significantly, the system will be available for use on third party sites”, says the piece. Google declined to comment. Increasing numbers of sites allow people to comment using their Facebook account and now Google looks set to challenge that dominance. The move will attempt to further cement together Google+ and the rest of the company’s web properties and the internet at large. Google+ has topped 90 million registrations, but it is unclear how many are active. Facebook has more than 850 million members and thousands of sites have plugged in its commenting system to their sites. Separately Google has announced that Google+ will be rolling out vanity URLs soon - which allow users their own personalised web addresses via the social network.
