An employee who allegedly pawned two computers belonging to a West Virginia school district was arrested after evading law enforcement for a year, police said. Police in Kanawha County said Gary Cochran, the district's former "child nutrition director," allegedly pawned his school-issued HP laptop at Kanawha Valley Fine Jewelry for $250, ArsTechnica reported Friday. He then allegedly came back later with a Samsung Galaxy Tab checked out from the district and pawned it for another $250. When someone at the school district noticed the computers were gone, the Board of Education sent Cochran letters about the missing devices. Instead of buying them back, Cochran quit on Feb. 22, 2012 -- and then disappeared. When clearing out his desk a few days later, employees discovered the pawn tickets for the two computers. Local police, determining the devices had a combined retail value of $1,535, obtained an arrest warrant for Cochran for grand larceny. He evaded arrest for more than a year before a tip to a local TV station sent police and U.S. Marshals to the small town of Milton, where Cochran was arrested this week.
