Iranian researchers from Islamic Azad University, Sanandaj Branch, succeeded in improving the ability to reproduce and to direct the bone-making process by using a combination of a sponge bone scaffold taken from the animal and coating it with a type of nanocomposite. The ability to repair and to reproduce bone can be used in the bone damages caused due to impacts or accidents. Despite the wide application of bone bank all over the world, there still exist many unanswered questions about the immunology of grafts, cooperation, and re-patterning. Calcium hydroxyapatite can be used in bone repair and in the treatment of bone diseases in orthopedic surgeries. The nanopowder of calcium hydroxyapatite, in specific, can help the repair of bone tissue with more ability in shorter period, and it can perfectly substitute the previous techniques such as bone grafting. Such materials increase bone regeneration and they result in the three dimensional process of vascular regeneration growth, the growth of tissue arteriole, and the growth of bone-making cells in the grafting process. The mechanical properties of the bone can be explained taking into account the structure or the properties of the materials that form the bone. According to Dr. Rasoul Rahimzadeh, one of the researchers of the study, the aim of the study was to evaluate the radiograph and sonography of sponge bone scaffold that was coated with nano hydroxyapatite. It was used in the treatment of a radial bone of rabbit, and it can be applied in humans too. Results of the research have been published in February 2012 in Acta Cirurgica Brasileira, vol. 27, issue 2.
