Kobo, an e-book maker in Toronto, says its new Aura HD model has the highest resolution e-ink screen of any 6.8-inch e-reader. Kobo launched its newest e-reader in London Monday, boasting a 1440-by-1080 resolution, 265 pixel-per-inch screen, theregister.co.uk reported. Kobo said the 1 gigahertz processor in the Aura HD makes it 20 percent faster than other readers in both page turning and Web browsing. The screen on the WiFi only Aura HD is illuminated for reading in the dark, Kobo said. The 4 gigabytes of internal storage can be augmented by way of a micro SD slot up to 32GB to store books purchased either from Kobo's own store, which appears on the device's home screen, or through apps supporting other shopping sites. As a direct competitor to Amazon's Kindle Paperwhite, the Aura HD hopes to leap ahead with its ability to display 10 font styles in 24 sizes. The reported price for the Kobo Aura HD is $169.
